Minneapolis riots - Violence after George Floyd killed in police custody in the US,
After the death of a detained black person in the US, people are furious. In response, large-scale looting, arson, and violence continued in the city of Minneapolis for the second night in a row. The city's mayor has demanded the government's deployment of the National Guards without delay. The custodial murder charge is of a white police officer who is seen in a video strangling black George Floyd (46) with his knee. Angry people consider it a racial crime.
Minneapolis was rocked by a second night of protests, over the police-involved death of George Floyd. Protestors to the streets of Minneapolis again on May 27, two days after the death of George Floyd while he was in police custody. The protests on the evening of May 17 and early hours of May 28 reportedly began peacefully. Protester started out chanting, "hands up, don't shoot," outside of the Minneapolis polices third precinct.
Another group chanted 'F*ck the Police,' at the site of Flyoeds death. As the night went on multiple stores were looted and some buildings were set on fire. Two self-described "heavily armed rednecks," said they were all for the protests and were on the streets with protesters, protecting local businesses from potential looters.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told local NBC affiliate KATE 11 that he is asking for help from the MN National Guard. Frey's sentiments were echoed by Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith. Floyd died on the evening of May 25 after a now-fired Minneapolis police officer kneeled and his neck while he was handcuffed on the ground. All 4 officers involved in the incident were fired on May 26. Protesters and Floyd's surviving family have called for the officers to be charged for Floydsdesth.
Hollywood actors demand justice
Hollywood stars Annie Hathaway, John Boyega, Viola Davis, and Justin Bieber have demanded justice in Floyd's case. He has also expressed dissatisfaction over the police's dealings with blacks.
